I did not grow up speaking Arabic. I began memorising the Quran at the age of seventeen, and by the age of twenty, Allah had blessed me to complete its memorisation.
My love for the Quran then took me to Egypt, where Allah blessed me with an exceptional teacher. Through him, I was honoured to receive an ijazah with a short chain of transmission—only twenty-eight people between myself and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
Alongside memorising the Quran, Allah also blessed me with the opportunity to study the Arabic language until I became qualified to teach it, receiving a tazkiyah from my teachers. This allowed me not only to recite the Quran, but also to better understand its language and help others appreciate its meanings.
Over the years, I have dedicated much of my time to teaching the Quran, Tajweed and Arabic. One project that is particularly close to my heart is my “Tajweed Made Easy” series, where I explain the rules of Tajweed in simple English. I have also summarised much of the classical poem Al-Jazariyyah, making its teachings easier and more accessible for English-speaking students. These lessons remain my YouTube channel available for anyone wishing to improve their recitation.
As I continued teaching, I realised that many Muslims sincerely wanted to learn the Quran but simply did not know where to begin. Others had never been taught properly, while many felt embarrassed to ask for help or believed they were too old to start.
